Lip Flip

A subtle pout. No filler required.

Aesthetics — O Body + Wellness

Patients who want a subtle, natural-looking improvement to their upper lip without filler, particularly those who feel their upper lip disappears when smiling or want more definition at the border.

Lip Flip

About

A lip flip uses a small amount of botulinum toxin placed precisely along the upper lip border to relax the orbicularis oris muscle. When that muscle releases, the top of the upper lip rolls slightly outward, creating the appearance of a fuller, more defined upper lip without any added volume.

At O Body + Wellness, the lip flip is performed by our nurse practitioner using Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, or Xeomin. The treatment takes minutes and requires no topical numbing for most patients. The effect is subtle and intentional: more of your upper lip becomes visible at rest and when you smile, without the look or feel of filler.

The lip flip works particularly well for patients whose upper lip disappears when smiling, those who want a more defined lip border without adding volume, and anyone looking to complement an existing lip filler result. It can be combined with a small amount of filler in the same session for patients who want both definition and volume.

What to expect.

Your experience

01

Your lip assessment

We evaluate your upper lip anatomy at rest and in motion, discuss your goal, and confirm whether a lip flip alone or a combination approach is most appropriate for your anatomy.

02

The treatment

Four to eight small injections placed precisely along the upper lip border. The visit takes under 10 minutes. Most patients do not require numbing. Minimal discomfort.

03

Right after

Small injection sites may be faintly visible for a few hours. Avoid strenuous exercise for four hours. Some patients notice mild changes to lip movement in the first week as the product settles, particularly with straws or whistling. This resolves.

04

Results timeline

Effect begins at 3 to 5 days and is fully visible at 2 weeks. Because the lip muscles are highly active, the lip flip typically lasts 8 to 10 weeks, shorter than standard neurotoxin results in less active areas.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

What is the difference between a lip flip and lip filler?

A lip flip uses a small amount of neurotoxin to relax the muscle along the upper lip border, causing the lip to roll slightly outward and appear more visible. It does not add volume. Lip filler uses hyaluronic acid to physically add volume and shape. The lip flip is more subtle and temporary. Many patients choose one or the other based on their goal, and some combine both in the same session.

Does the lip flip hurt?

Most patients find it very tolerable. We place four to eight small injections along the upper lip border in under 10 minutes. Numbing cream is available but most patients do not request it. The sensation is a mild pinch at each point.

How long does a lip flip last?

Typically 8 to 10 weeks. The upper lip is a high-movement area, and the orbicularis oris muscle metabolizes neurotoxin faster than areas like the forehead or crow's feet. Patients who maintain regular treatments often find the result extends slightly over time.

Will the lip flip affect how I speak or drink?

Some patients notice mild changes in the first week, particularly with straws, whistling, or certain consonants. This is temporary and resolves as you adjust to the subtle change in muscle function. Most patients adapt quickly and find it does not significantly affect daily activity.

Can I combine the lip flip with lip filler?

Yes, and this is a common combination. The neurotoxin creates definition at the border while a small amount of filler adds volume. Together they can produce a result that neither achieves alone. Both can be done in the same appointment.

Who is not a good candidate for a lip flip?

Patients who play wind instruments, sing professionally, or whose work requires very precise lip control may want to consider the timing carefully. We discuss this at your assessment so you can make a fully informed decision.
